Secondary School

In our bilingual school, we focus equally on academic and personal knowledge and skills. As an international community, our intention is that SIS students become global citizens with a strong sense of their origins.

Secondary School

Building Knowledge and Developing Skills

We combine the Brazilian curriculum with the Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB). Upon entering our bilingual secondary school, our students are ready to start language certificate preparations in English and other languages. We aim to achieve high academic standards and equip students with skills that allow them to thrive.

SIS Brasília

Secondary School Curriculum

During secondary school, SIS students undertake classes across eight different fields of knowledge: Portuguese, foreign languages, mathematics, individuals and societies (geography and history), science (biology, chemistry and physics), health and physical education, arts and design (IT).

Some subjects are taught in both languages (English and Portuguese), such as mathematics, science and history/society, whereas others are taught only in Portuguese, such as physical education, music and arts.

In addition, our students continue with the study of German as a foreign language and have the possibility to prepare for language certificates. From Year 7 onwards, they can also learn French as a foreign language.

Students develop several projects, putting into practice a number of skills acquired throughout their secondary school years. These skills involve time management, planning, critical thinking and transfer of learning, to name a few. As an IB World School, during Year 9, students develop the Community and Service Project, in which they have the opportunity to make a difference in the community.

At the end of secondary school, our students are prepared to participate in classes in several languages in a natural way and enter SIS Brasília College (starting in 2023).

International Baccalaureate (IB)

Middle Years Programme

The Brazilian curriculum (Base Nacional Comum Curricular, BNCC) is merged with the Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB). MYP is the programme provided for Year 6 to Year 10. With an interdisciplinary approach, its framework makes connections between disciplines and encourages students to do the same between their studies and the real world.
