Preschool
Our English/Portuguese bilingual preschool offers a stimulating and supportive learning environment for children aged three to six years. We nurture their innate fascination with the world by offering diverse learning possibilities in our day school concept.
SIS Brasília
The curriculum is designed to let students spend 50 % of the time immersed in English environments and 50 % of the time in Portuguese environments. Each of our preschool classes are accompanied by two teachers, who take turns and collaborate: one being responsible for teaching in English and the other in Portuguese. This ensures that the children are able to easily identify their respective language. Thus, they can use the languages in a natural and authentic way in their relation to the world, transforming their surroundings into a bilingual environment.
Our curriculum is inquiry-based and explores different fields of experience such as nature, the body, language and mathematics, among others, while strengthening students' social and emotional skills.
In SIS Preschool, we emphasise learning through play and discovery with an inquiry-based focus that considers students' interests, taking advantage of the different learning spaces at school. Inquiries are carried out in both English and Portuguese, which guarantees students the confidence to overcome challenges in both languages. Children explore their immediate environment and learn how to find their place in a group, and in this way start developing an age-appropriate level of independence. Furthermore, they take part in activities and projects with other classes, and celebrate local and international festivals and traditions.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
Our bilingual preschool education combines the Brazilian curriculum with the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organization. The PYP is for children from preschool to Year 5. The PYP principles are aligned with the SIS Brasília pedagogical proposal.
