We welcomed our students for a new school year. It is with great joy that we see our corridors, patios and classrooms full of life. We also celebrated the cone (known as Schultüte) ceremony with the students of the 1st year of Elementary School. A German tradition, which marks the beginning of a new school stage, that will certainly remain in the memory of the children and their families.
Before the end of the year holidays, we held our school sports week for 2021 with all students of SIS Brasília. It was a week for all students to participate and compete in a variety of individual and team sports and games, earning points for their house. It was a great event as a school community with everyone participating, showing excellent sportsmanship, coming together as a team, cheering on and encouraging others with all their energy and excitement.
On Friday 29th October we celebrated Halloween at SIS Brasilia. Grade 1 students had a lot of fun and came with some great costumes! We learned new vocabulary with some halloween activities and had a costume parade to show off all the wonderful costumes, both spooky and cute!
Grade 3 started off the Book Week celebration with a fun Harry Potter themed activity. After reading and learning about the author JK Rowling students were able to make their own wands! “Expectro Patronum, Wingardium Leviosa, Expelliarmus, Lumos, Alohomora…” Choose your favourite spell, cause our 3F class is ready for magic!
Grade 1 students celebrated 100 days of school this year! During the first 100 days they have learned and grown so much. We reflected on and consolidated what they have learned with fun activities about 100. Students demonstrated how they can count to 100, write numbers to 100, and write 100 high frequency words. These are just some significant goals and achievements for Grade 1 and they all should be proud!
We celebrated World Earth Day by sharing understandings about our systems and the environment. In the last few weeks students have developed projects related to recycling, made observations of the earth and sky, planted seedlings, and also developed campaigns with a focus on environmental preservation. In doing so, students had the opportunity to reflect on their rights and responsibilities in sharing finite resources.
Grade 1 students participated in a Kindness Egg Hunt as a way to develop positive relationships and show appreciation for one another. It was all the fun of an egg hunt with the added feeling of friendship and gratitude. Each student made a basket and decorated some eggs.
