Bilingual Instruction
Each of our primary school classes has two teachers: one is a Portuguese–speaking teacher and the other speaks the second language. The development of language skills in Portuguese and German, French or English, is of paramount importance at this level. Other subjects, such as maths, might also be taught in a language other than Portuguese. Additionally, a third language is taught as a foreign language.
Engaging and Varied Lessons
In our lessons, we use different learning styles to encourage our students to record their new learning in different ways, thus stimulating metacognition. We use problem solving, questioning and research skills based on real-life situations, to allow the students to acquire new knowledge and to help them deepen their understanding of what they have learned.
Further Activities
The primary students hold various activities throughout the year such as: creative Saturday, where parents are invited to participate in an activity with their child; cultural exhibition, where courses are given on the last day of the first semester to show parents all the work done throughout the semester; theatre performances and many more.
Benchmarking Tests
From grade 3 onwards, our students sit national and international benchmarking tests, in which they regularly achieve very good results.
Transfer to SIS Secondary School without Admission Examinations
SIS Primary School students who achieve the necessary grade average can transfer to the SIS Secondary School without needing to sit admission examinations.
Day School Structure
Lessons take place from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and school days are divided into regular intervals with time for learning and play. We also offer after school homework supervision. Children can choose from our varied selection of after school activities as well.
