Mikke Marttinen, Middle Years Programme (MYP) Coordinator

We are pleased to introduce to you the experienced, professional and caring coordinator for the Middle Years Programme (MYP):

Mikke Marttinen is a veteran teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience who began his teaching career in Montgomery County Public Schools in the United States. He is currently the English language and literature teacher and MYP coordinator at SIS Brasilia. Mikke earned his Master of Arts in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he majored in English. Mikke’s high school English teacher inspired him to enter the teaching profession, and he hopes to serve as the same inspiration for his students. When he is not in the classroom, Mikke enjoys participating in a variety of sports and physical activities and is an avid lover of pop music and cinema.

Mikke will lead and implement the MYP Programme at SIS Brasília. The MYP is especially designed for the unique needs of children ages eleven to sixteen (grade 6 through grade 10), at a time when they need to develop exceptional learning habits, self confidence and a thorough understanding of their academic subjects. This student-centred educational approach both embraces and transcends traditional school subjects by helping students see the connections between the academic disciplines.

We wish him success on this new journey!!!
