College

With the IB Diploma and the Brazilian college degree, our students are free to follow whichever educational path they choose, in Brazil or abroad.

At college level, Escola Suíço-Brasileira by SIS Swiss International School (ESB) offers an attractive option to students: the Brazilian college degree and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. With the two of them in hand, there is no limit to the educational opportunities available to our students.

Bilingual College

The bilingual college is approved by the State Secretary of Education. After three years, it culminates in the Brazilian college degree and in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Portuguese and English are both languages of instruction and all the students continue with their German and French classes.

In the first year of college they finish the Middle Years Programme (MYP), which culminates in the presentation of their personal project, a task that accompanies them during the whole year. The MYP is the perfect basis to successfully enter the IB Diploma Programme.

During the last two years, the students are simultaneously prepared for the IB Diploma and the Brazilian college degree. This includes preparation for the national college exam Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (ENEM) as well as the entry tests of the Brazilian universities.

A Broad General Education

At college level, students enjoy a general education that is both broad and deep. Our main priority is to enable them to understand their natural, technical and cultural surroundings in Brazil as well as on an international level. This includes, amongst other things, educational excursions, camping, day trips to cultural and scientific institutions, visits to theatres, participation in athletic and academic competitions, author readings and musical performances from the German-, English-, and French-speaking cultural spheres, as well as projects with local communities.

Computer Skills and Language Certificates

In addition to gaining the ability to participate in multilingual classes in a natural way, our students also acquire solid and hands-on computer skills. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to earn language certificates in English, French and German.

Brazilian College Degree and International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB)

Our students graduate from our Bilingual College with the Brazilian college degree. However, as a recognised IB World School we also offer them the opportunity to simultaneously obtain the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB). During their final two years in college, students follow an integrated programme that prepares them for both sets of exams. With this dual qualification, they are fully prepared for taking up their studies at Brazilian or international universities.

The academically challenging combination of the Brazilian college degree and IB Diploma is only offered at a handful of Brazilian schools, making it one of the distinct benefits of studying at SIS.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

The IB Diploma Programme is the ideal preparation for university studies in an English-, French- or German-speaking country. Individual subjects are enhanced with teaching and learning methods commonly used at university undergraduate level.

Some subjects are taught exclusively in English with corresponding English material. This allows students excellent preparation for the IB exams, which are only conducted in English.

The academic level of the IB Diploma Programme is high and it is well balanced in its subjects. Passing it, the students have an ample vision of humanistic and exact sciences as well as maths. As a bilingual school we put a strong focus on languages.

In addition to the academic subjects, the programme is characterised by two distinctive features: on the one hand, the subject Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) gives students the opportunity to actively engage in arts, sports and social activities; the theory of knowledge course, on the other hand, teaches students to develop personal and critical thinking skills.
